Twitter For Restaurants, Anyone? It's Free!

You’ve heard it, seen it, and probably have used it. Someone even told me, it’s better than email. What is Twitter? It’s a micro-blogging Social Media tool enabling folks to send messages to up to 140 characters or “tweets” to be exact, in the social Twitter stream. Messages can be informal or formal such as “How are you doing?” or “I’m in a Restaurant in Atlanta and I just had this awesome meal!”
Why Use Twitter?

1.      Market and Communicate -- if you have a business, brand, or service you want to promote, you have to market it to the world. Yes, marketing it to the world will do too. After all, Twitter is both local and global because Twitter is one of the many social media tools you can use to promote your business, brand, product and services online.

2.      Network with like-minded people online. Business networking is nothing new. In fact, it’s essential in order for the business to succeed. Acknowledge and reach out to others as frequently as possible and before you know it, you have created your network!

3.      Twitter as a conversational enabler system. If your business has a blog, share them. If you have some useful tips, or facts, share those too. Introduce yourself to new followers, respond to their questions and stay engage with your audience. Converse often and they will follow.

How can a restaurant use Twitter?

Restaurant Owners:
It’s simple, easy and quick! If you already have an audience, spend a couple of minutes a day or every other day interacting with them. Ask them about their favorite dish, dessert or if they would like to see something new on the menu. Or in general, provide information about your restaurant, location and even daily specials. In addition, inform your audience of any upcoming events held in your restaurant. Perhaps offer something irresistible like free dessert, free entrée and a bottle of wine for the first 5 customers who come to our location on specific day and time. As you can just imagine, Twitter can help salvage a slow night or lunch by offering specials.

One important strategy to help build your “followers” in Twitter is to follow people and to also follow them back. Don’t forget to engage with them frequently. After all, people like to communicate and Twitter helps you with this easily. But, remember following a number of people in Twitter has limitations to 1000 only. In addition, daily updates, including re-tweets (re-posted messages either from you or other’s re-tweets) per day is down to 1000. For additional technical information, visit ~ http://bit.ly/iK7S91

Suffice to say, use Twitter to help you market your business, build your network and converse with people. You never know, you may just like it! And best of all, it’s free! Or at least the last time I checked it. :)
